Lois Ehlert Author Study26399811-mjs_workshift_1_of_hoffman.jpg_workshift.jpg

Second grade students have been learning about the life and work of Wisconsin author Lois Ehlert. Students have many of her books including: Under My Nose, Hands, Feathers for Lunch, Nuts to You, and more! Ask your child the following questions to see what they have learned!

1. Lois Ehlert says the hardest part of writing for her is coming up with an idea to write about. Where does she get many of her writing ideas from?

2. Lois Ehlert received a special gift from her parents as a little girl. What was it?

3. Where did Ehlert grow up? Where does she live now?

After reading Nuts to You, students learned that Ehlert puts a lot of research into her books -- even her fiction ones! To try our own research, students used QR codes and their iPads to research facts about squirrels. Students then used their iPads to create short squirrel fact videos using the Chatter Pix app. Check out these student-made videos!

After listening to Color Zoo and Circus, students tried their own hand at collage -- Ehlert's art form. Check out our creations below!
